Case Study: GUNNS Veneers New Zealand (Pty)
Ltd
Our Client’s core business:
Australasia's largest producer of sliced veneers,
with 3 plants, Boyer and Somerset in Tasmania and
Christchurch in New Zealand. The world's largest producer
of Eucalypt veneers.
Their Challenge
To increase efficiency and productivity of their 3
Australasian plants. To improve factory based data
capture processes and to increase accuracy of production
data.
Our Solution
• Seamlessly integrate factory ‘data capture
systems’ with backoffice ordering and inventory
systems on NT and MacOS platforms.
• Develop software to automate allocation of
processed veneer to specific customer orders
• Develop software to quickly capture and uniquely
identify (using Barcoding technologies) data relating
to batches of processed veneer.
• Develop software/hardware solution to increase
the accuracy of automated measuring of processed veneer
• Use factory proof hardware to capture data
at 3 stages within the ‘Log to Veneer’
lifecycle.
Results Delivered
• Captures all veneer bundle data and is transferred
to existing backoffice inventory system, while storing
the data on a barcode label which is applied to each
bundle of veneer. Data is recorded and printed using
the RACE Industrial Touch Screen.
• Measuring of veneer (interfacing with existing
measuring equipment) and automatic allocation of ‘veneer
to customer orders’ is combined in to one single
process, allowing the production flow to be smoother
and considerably faster.
• Intelligent software increases accuracy of
the measuring process, producing more yield as well
as ensuring that customer orders are filled faster
and more accurately.
• Valuable production data available in ‘real-time’
enabling reports to be compiled at anytime while being
based on more accurate data.
GUNNS Veneers Perspective
“…Since our new veneer processing computer
system has been installed, our production, yield,
and efficiency have increased considerably. Now that
veneer is being measured more accurately and since
our production data is being recorded and monitored
more closely, quality control efforts can be made
more effective and can continue to provide our customers
with top grade product…”
“…Installation of the new system was
seamless and was without any major issues. Staff have
received the ‘user-friendly’ system with
enthusiasm and have been impressed with it’s
ability and effectiveness while being delighted with
it’s simplicity…”
“…We consider this R.A.C.E. system to
be extremely cost effective with it having provided
us with a ROI beyond our expectations”.
